There is an interesting background to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not permitted. Eight gambling dens are established in a relatively small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect destination, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling den, features 150 slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel compound that contains many conveniences in addition to the gambling den, which contains 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 gaming tables.
